Internet is one of the most important things in our lifes. An average person is online 13 hours a day. Internet helps you do everything while you are laying on your bed. On Internet everything is one click away. In the last 50 years technology has undergone an amazing transformation. But with the emergence of the Internet, is our ability to access technology on a daily basis a good thing or a bad thing?
Internet has effected our lives in many ways. Now, we can read newspapers online, shop online without trying out any of the clothes we buy. In my opinion it sounds wrong to shop clothes online. Every company makes their sizes different. When I am shopping I would like try on the stuff I am buying. I understand buying books, magazines, electronics online. They are cheaper online. You don’t need to drive miles from store to store to find the book you need for the cheapest price. The internet saves us a lot of money but at the same time it makes people lazy.
If an Average person is online 13 hours a day. It only leaves them 11 hours to do other stuff. Researchs say people should sleep at least 8 hours to rest well. So this leaves only 3 hours per person everyday to do something instead of being online or sleeping. Another research says that in 1970 the obesity was %14. In 2010 its %38 percent. So these researchs can tell how unhealthy and unsocial people are becoming.
People thinks having a lot of friends on facebook means they are social, No its not. How many of them do you really know? How many of them have you ever talked to? Do you ever hang out with a friend you found on facebook? People used to hang out everyday in 1980s and had so many real good friends. In nowadays people have a lot of good friends but a little real friends and only hang out on the weekends.
With Social Networks like Facebook, Myspace have being violating personal privacy for years. If you don’t change your setting anyone can find you on the Social Networks and use your name, address, birthday and even your pictures. A new feature on Facebook Iphone app is that you can go to people you don’t knows profiles and save their pictures to your Iphone.
The internet offers many opportunities for laziness. One common opportunity that often comes to my mind is online shopping. Shopping via the internet gives consumers with the opportunity to shop for whatever they want, without any distractions such as other customers or annoying salespeople. I know many people that shop online on a regular basis, including friends, teachers, and classmates.
Dr Susan Blackmore, lecturer in psychology at the University of West England in Bristol, claimed on Thursday that e-learning is making children mentally lazy by encouraging them to rely on the click of a button for information. She told the audience of academics attending the debate at the Royal Institute that the expanse of information available on the Internet is preventing school children from memorising and storing knowledge in their brain. "Traditionally, what has primarily been an issue for education has been putting knowledge into kid's heads. But now it will be about showing them how to navigate in that world," said Dr Blackmore. Her argument is in direct contrast with the government's push to have all have all schools connected to the Internet by 2002. Department of education and Skills require 1 computer for every 11 students in primary schools, and one for every seven secondary school students.
Each person’s Internet use is different. You might need to use the Internet extensively for your work, for example, or you might rely heavily on social networking sites to keep in touch with faraway family and friends. Spending a lot of time online only becomes a problem when it absorbs too much of your time, causing you to neglect your relationships, your work, school, or other important things in your life. If you keep repeating compulsive Internet behavior despite the negative consequences in your offline life, then it’s time to strike a new balance.
Many people turn to the Internet in order to manage unpleasant feelings such as stress, loneliness, depression, and anxiety. When you have a bad day and are looking for a way to escape your problems or to quickly relieve stress or self-soothe, the Internet can be an easily accessible outlet. Losing yourself online can temporarily make feelings such as loneliness, stress, anxiety, depression, and boredom evaporate into thin air. As much comfort as the Internet can provide, though, it’s important to remember that there are healthier (and more effective) ways to keep difficult feelings in check. These may include exercising, meditating, using sensory relaxation strategies, and practicing simple breathing exercises.
For many people, an important aspect of overcoming Internet and computer addiction is to find alternate ways to handle these difficult feelings. Even when your Internet use is back to healthy levels, the painful and unpleasant feelings that may have prompted you to engage in unhealthy Internet use in the past will remain. So, it’s worth spending some time thinking about the different ways you intend to deal with stressful situations and the daily irritations that would normally have you logging on
While gambling has been a well-documented problem for years, the availability of Internet gambling has made gambling far more accessible. It has also made it harder for recovering addicts to avoid relapse. Online or virtual casinos are open all day, every day for anyone with Internet access. People who don’t live within close proximity of a traditional casino or betting track, for example, or even those who are too young to gain access, now find it much easier to gamble online.
Net compulsions such as compulsive stock trading or online auction shopping can be just as financially and socially damaging as online gambling. eBay addicts, for example, may wake up at strange hours in order to be online for the last remaining minutes of an online auction. They may purchase things they don’t need and can’t afford in order to experience the excitement of placing the winning bid.
Compulsive online gamers can isolate themselves for many hours at a time participating in virtual reality or online fantasy games, neglecting other aspects of their lives such as work and family.
When used responsibly, the Internet can be a great place to interact socially, meet new people, and even start romantic relationships. However, online relationships can often be more intense than those in real life. Our fantasies are given free reign and the idea of being with our online love can exceed all realistic expectations. Since few real-life relationships can compete with these wild, fantasy relationships, the Internet addict will prefer to spend more and more time with their online friends.
Another problem is that about 50% of people online lie about their age, weight, job, marital status, or gender. When online friends meet and the real-life person fails to match the online persona, it can create profound emotional disappointment.

Some other advantages of Internet is that you can get help with your homework. Learn new things, Watch videos of your interest, Listen to music. So internet has both advantages and disadvantages. I wrote all this but I don’t know what I would do without Internet.

2)-By signing in to many of the Web's most popular sites, consumers send their names, e-mail addresses or other personal information to other websites and data-collection companies.
-The study found that on 185 heavily visited websites, a user name or user ID provided by consumers was shared with another website 61 percent of the time. In many cases, that data "leakage" would appear to violate websites' privacy policies, which typically promise not to share personal information with other parties.
-The study found that clicking on a local ad on the Home Depot website sent a user's first name and e-mail address to 13 data collection companies, while signing up for an account on Weather Underground sent the e-mail address to 22 companies.

- there are reasons to draw a line between what science can and should do.
-When news came out of China eight years ago that scientists had created embryonic rabbit-people, the size of German newspaper headlines was as huge as the public outcry.
-Many saw the Chinese experiments as an attack on human dignity, while some people defended the Chinese saying that they were an important step on the road to finding new ways of treating illness.
-Animal welfare aspects aside, there is little to be said about such research. A few human cells in its body is not going to turn an animal into a human, not by a long shot. Countless human patients today have heart valves taken from pigs, and this in no way subtracts from their humanity.
-Some people thought experiments with apes will be necessary because, ethically, direct human experimentation cannot be justified. The experiments will not cause apes to have any new ideas, because there’s nothing human about their nerve cells
