- The Ethics Commission is checking the Lime Rock Fire Chief Frank Sylvester's practice of paying vehicle taxes in Lincoln, where he works, instead of Pawtucket, where he lives.
- The car tax in Lincoln is quiet a bit lower than in Pawtucket, and he saves an estimated $2,300 a year with the out-of-town registration.
- He's been chief in Lime Rock in Lincoln for more than 20 years, and he worked more than 20 years in Pawtucket;s fire department before that.
- He makes around $140,000 a year.
-The city of Pawtucket picks up trash at Sylvester's house, and even though the owner has three registered cars, the city gets no car taxes from him to help pay for services because he lists the Lime Rock fire station in Lincoln, where he's chief, as his residence.
He is using the services so he can pay for them like anybody else. Now, if he wasn't using the services I could see him getting out of it.
ReplyDeleteThis is just bad ethics here. =/ While I see he's trying to cheat the system, he's still lying to do it. He's essentially a leech on the system in the town that he lives, because he isn't paying into the local taxes. Such a shame, really.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, sure, he saves some money, but he starves the system of some of it's regular income. Therefore, the ends are not settled. Not to mention the means are unethical, so I'd venture to say that, again, the means are not settled. Therefore, neither the ends justify the means, nor to the means justify the end here.
i think its bad ethically to falsify any legal documents for anybodies benefit, especially your own. its basically lying and stealing form the government that helps support not only him but his entire community.
ReplyDeleteits taxes, everybody hates them, we all gotta pay them unless your friends with the ones in power...yes hes starving the system, even though i dont like the system, its still in place because it has a reason, so the ends do not justify the means, hes makein 140000 a year as a firefighter for cryin out loud, he should be able to afford it like everybodyelse
